Use Poll Everywhere to have your students reflect on and share what they learned in class on a particular day to help with learner persistence and student retention.

Preparation

  1. Create a free account (and identify yourself as an educator) so that you can save and reuse the polls you create.
  2. Log in to Poll Everywhere.
  3. Select Create Poll.
  4. Write your poll question and decide whether you want the responses to be open ended or multiple choice. If you choose multiple choice, identify the possible answers by typing in the text boxes. You may delete responses by selecting the trash can icon and add additional responses by choosing Add an answer.
  5. Repeat step 4 to create additional polls; otherwise, select Create.

How-To

When you are ready to poll your students.

  1. Log in to your Poll Everywhere account.
  2. Select the link to the poll you would like to display.
  3. Expand the menu titled Share and Publish on the right side of the page, select Live chart link and choose Preview.
  4. Display this screen using your digital projector and have students respond by text message or computer.
  5. Discuss the student responses and connect them to the day's objectives.

More Ways

Here are a few suggestions for ways to engage your students with Poll Everywhere:

  1. Assess how much your students remember from your last class together.
  2. Learn information about your students (where they are from, how many languages they speak, their occupations, hobbies, etc.)
  3. Use as a quick and informal assessment tool to evaluate student learning.
  4. Use as a pre-reading activity in which students predict what a story will be about based on the title.
