Activity Description

Assign students to use the flashcards to practice or review grammar or vocabulary that has been taught and studied in class. There are numerous flashcards for grammar and vocabulary that include punctuation, writing, and reading for all levels of ESL. The flashcards correlate with McGraw Hill ESL textbook titles, but the textbooks are not required for use of the flashcards. All flashcards are text-based except those in the English Illustrated Dictionary.

Activity Description

Use this online American English Dictionary for ESL Students in class whenever students need to know a definition of a word or learn words with similar meanings to a given vocabulary word. You can also assign students to use the Web site to look up definitions, synonyms, and see sample sentences of given vocabulary words on word lists and hear pronunciations of words.

294. Microsoft PowerPoint: Callouts for Dialogs

Activity Description

Students practice question formation and use the Internet, as needed, to write dialogs and enter their dialogs on PowerPoint slides in call-outs with photos. In the samples provided, students practiced typical job interview questions and answers (Example Document - Job Interview Project) and embedded questions (Example Document - Ask a Famous Person Interview Project), using the Internet to find answers. However, students could be assigned to write dialogs around themes (favorites - foods, hobbies, sports, TV shows, movies, etc.), grammar structures (verb tenses), a problem/scenario, or target vocabulary.

Activity Description

Students create a narrated PowerPoint with images (clip art) and sentences they have written about their goals and dreams for the future, using future verb tenses.
