Abstract:
In 1989, President Bush and the 50 governors held an historic summit that culminated in the adoption of six National Education Goals. This is one of a series of publications describing what we know from research on individual Goals, as well as the limits of that knowledge. The topic of the report is goal five, which later became goal six, and its five objectives. It addresses the concepts of adult literacy, lifelong learning, and knowledge and skills of the global economy and responsible citizenship.
