Activity Description

Students work in pairs or small groups with one iPhone or iPad to review the meaning and practice the pronunciation of the lesson's vocabulary words.

  1. Download the app on the devices to be used for the activity. Since this is not a free app, you will need to get approval to download it to school owned devices.
  2. Provide instructions for students who wish to download the app on their own devices.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the app.

  1. Introduce the vocabulary from the OPD textbook (pronunciation and meaning) to the class.
  2. Have students break up into small groups of three, then model the activity for them.
  3. Have each small group identify one "teacher". This person will control the device and lead the activity. (Students will take turns as the teacher.)
  4. The "teacher" in each group will display the vocabulary word(s)/phrase on the device, covering the answer at the bottom of the screen. The "students" will respond to the best of their abilities. The "teacher" will then play the response, having students practice repeating the word(s)/phrase as many times needed. The "teacher" should bookmark any word(s)/phrases students have trouble with for review in another round. Repeat with other students acting as the "teacher".
  5. The classroom teacher should walk around the room to provide guidance and support and identify pronunciation issues that should be addressed.

Teacher Tips

  • Have students download the app on their own devices for practice outside of the classroom. The app is not free however, and at the time of this entry, it is $9.99.
