Program available for Technology and Distance Learning Symposium 2017

The eighth Technology and Distance Learning Symposium will be happening next month at Anaheim Campus of North Orange Community College District, School of Continuing Education, on March 10 & 11, 2017.

Digital Badges to Empower Students

Corona-Norco Adult School, as part of the Riverside ABout Students Regional Consortium's initiative, is gearing up to launch the first batch of Digital Badges for students. This presentation will highlight the basics of Digital Badges and the journey the school has taken towards this project. When the objective is to empower students with a powerful 21st Century employability advantage, the bug is worth spreading. Come get the Digital Badging bug from us!

Putting English to Work 1 is NOW Online!

LAUSD's popular ESL Beginning Low distance learning course, Putting English to Work 1, is online! Watch videos. Do grammar and life skills exercises on computers, tablets, and smart phones. Join us to experience it first-hand.

Developmental Math and English for Adult Learners

Come learn about free Developmental Math and Developmental English courses available on OTAN’s MOODLE server. English provides reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and usage, all in one place. Developmental math helps learners meet requirements to enter college through review and practice of basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Both courses incorporate multimedia and simulations. Come take a look at these courses and see how you can adapt them to meet the needs of your learners!

Video Instruction Made Easy and Effective

Learn how to captivate students with engaging video screencasts. This session covers essential tactics for making videos that look and sound amazing. Manage your YouTube account to attract learners and expand your audience. Free tools such as QuickTime Player and Screencast-O-Matic will get you recording right away!

APP-mazing Race: Mobile Devices, Long-term, Self-directed Projects

The APP-mazing Race will take place over two days. Participants will opt in to compete in small teams to create projects using personal iPads/mobile devices. Support will be available in additional workshops and individual help throughout the symposium. The opening session presents reasons to use mobile technology in order to increase the digital literacy and skills of adult learners we serve. Educational technology theory and best practices presented will guide teams on their mission. In the closing session you will hear from the teams, and vote for the winners and choose to apply their cool techniques and tools in your classroom and celebrate the fun and effectiveness of educational technology!
