ASE: High School Equivalency Preparation

Students use the PhET Number Line: Operations simulation to explore addition and subtraction of positive and negative integers. Through hands-on investigation, students visualize integer operations as movements on a number line and develop conceptual understanding of why integer rules work. Students collaborate with partners to make predictions, test ideas, and explain patterns observed in the simulation.

Students use the PhET Number Line: Integers interactive simulation to explore positive and negative numbers, opposites, absolute value, and integer operations. Through hands-on investigation, students visualize how integers are represented on a number line and discover how movement along the number line models real-world situations involving gains, losses, elevations, temperatures, and financial transactions.

PlayPosit is the old EduCanon. It helps you take a video of your choice and add questions for students to answer. It has all the advantages of videos (stop, rewind, re-watch, self-paced) as well as the opportunity to re-mediate student learning with specific feedback for wrong answers.

The free account allows you to create bulbs' (videos in which you have added questions), have 1 GB of storage, and monitor your students. There is a premium account (pay) that allows a wide variety of questions types and lets you use a large bank of already created video bulbs.

While we would like to have a "pre-created" activity for you to use in class, the nature of this tool does not allow us to share activities unless we have a paid account, which we do not. But we feel it is a very valuable tool, so we are including it here in Teaching with Technology with instructions on how to use it and a completed example put together by the site creators.

This is a Project Based Learning Assignment, titled Quarter Project. Students select an interesting question they want to research. They use Trello to organize their projects. The Quarter Project Trello board presents the instructions for students to move their projects from one step to the next. As a teacher, it helps you see the class move through the project. It is also a great place for students to assemble their research, images, presentation etc. Trello makes it easy for students to collaborate on their projects.
