Students can use this site on their own to practice this selection of 300 frequently used academic vocabulary words is derived from the "Academic Word List" (Coxhead, 2000). Students can also use the site on their own without registration by entering words to hear pronounced and in sentences and doing activities to practice the spelling of the words. There are 30 lists of 10 select words per list from the Academic Word List. Teachers can use the site to create spelling/vocabulary lists for students to practice.

This is a beginning literacy activity for students who are learning the alphabet. They will be able to spell and write their first name, last name and address by the end of the activity.

Tricider is a free website with no registration process that allows students to vote on topics of interest. Students with some level of language can also put pros and cons into the vote.

Using this site, students will practice vocabulary by learning and using the word of the day, playing the spelling bee, and looking up two idioms and one acronym. Students can customize their page to include as many features as they like. Other features included in the side menu include a thesaurus, medical legal and financial dictionaries, acronyms, idioms, and encyclopedias.

This Web site is rich in possibilities. Beyond vocabulary practice the site offers a variety of dictionaries in various languages (Spanish, German, French, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Norwegian, Greek, Russian and Turkish). There are games to play: Hangman, Spelling Bee, Words Within Words, Matching. There are also great sources of information: Article of the Day; In the News; This Day in History; Today's Holiday; Today's Birthday; and Quotation of the Day.
