Welcome to OTAN, your Outreach and Technical Assistance Network. [A blue graphic with OTANŐs logo and the different technological resources offered by OTAN: News Articles, Annual Technology and Distance Learning Symposium, Online Resources for Adult Education, TeachersŐ and AdministratorsŐ Digests, Teaching with Technology, and Face-to-Face Online Training] I am excited to share with you a Chrome extension called Loom. [Loom home page is shown, use.loom.com] Loom allows you to quickly record a video message or screencast and then share it immediately with students or colleagues. Let's take a look. First, I need to go to www.useloom.com and select one-click install. I need to add the extension and I am going to use it with my Google account so I can easily send email messages to my students. [One-click install was selected and then a choice between using outlook or Google account. Google account was selected and then the account name.] Once you have an account you are ready to record. So, let's get started. I'm going to make a short recording about OTAN. [OTAN home page is shown] I need to select the icon for Loom in the upper-right hand corner. And now I have several choices. [Window pops up showing the different options for recording] I can record my screen and camera. This lets students see you as you are discussing a particular Web page. You can also move your picture around and put it in a different location. You notice there are different sizes too, so you can select a different size. [Picture is moved to different locations and different sizes are selected] I can do Screen Only or Cam Only. You have several different options here. I'm going to do Screen Only and I'm going to start my recording. I have a choice of screens and I want this one. I'm going to say share that screen. [The red button titled Start Recording is selected and a countdown is displayed] I'd like to tell you about OTAN's Web site. This is the President's Day weekend so there is something about the offices being closed, but what I want to show you is Teaching Tools and Resources and Teaching with Technology. [Teaching Tools and Resources tab is selected.] When I am finished with my recording I just select the checkbox. {Green check mark at the bottom is selected.] There is my video. [Using her mouse, the different options for sharing are pointed out to the right on the loom video page] I can share my video on Twitter, Facebook, Gmail. I can embed it. I can use a link. I can also go down here and I can edit it now which is pretty exciting. This here (under the video) just gives you your options. That is a quick and easy way to create a video. What I like best about Loom is the way it integrates with Gmail and Outlook accounts. Let me show you. [Screen changes to a Gmail account.] I am going to compose a new email [Compose in the upper left-handle corner is selected and a new message window opens.] and down at the bottom is the Loom icon. I am going to click it. I can create a new recording, one of the videos that I have in my files or I can put in the most recent recording. So, I am going to do that. It actually inserts a video player directly into your email. [Shows the video player displayed in the email.] I think that is so cool. Give Loom a try and see how you like it. Thank you, and as a reminder OTAN supports California Adult Education agencies who are integrating, improving, and maintaining technology use in the classroom.
