This Web site is filled with tools to assist teachers as they set up their math course as well as students looking for individual help. The site includes class notes, video worksheets, video lectures (using different formats if you cannot access YouTube), homework sets, topic quizzes to assess if students are able to skip the topic, and much more.

EdReady is a personalized math and English readiness learning system that evaluates the skills of each student in the context of their goal and then provides a learning pathway to mastery. EdReady supports and accelerates math and English readiness.

 

This activity takes you through the steps to set up your own EdReady account and how you can use it with your students.

 

OTAN supports agencies wanting to try EdReady with their students. They will set up teacher accounts and needed student pathways. Students are assigned a “Goal key” that ensures the student is working in their teacher’s account. Teachers can track student progress and time on task.

In this activity, students are given a weekly set of vocabulary words to study. Each day a different activity is introduced to help students learn the vocabulary. The week ends with a Flippity Quiz Show game and quiz.

Flippity is a powerful tool that takes the information you enter on a Google Sheet template and then quickly and easily creates numerous online games to help students with vocabulary and spelling. Games include a Jeopardy-style quiz show, Bingo, Hangman, Crossword Puzzles, Word Search, quizzes that generate a certificate when completed, Memory, and more. Imagine your English as a Second Language (ESL) students practicing vocabulary words with flashcards that speak to them. You can even insert images and videos. Activities can be shared to your Google Classroom, Website, Moodle course, or accessed on the Flippity Website.

Kahoot is a game-based student response system. You can create and play quizzes or initiate discussions and surveys. They can be accessed by the students using any device with a Web browser, including a laptop, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, Chromebook, or desktop computer. The app is NOT necessary to participate in a Kahoot! activity. The free version allows only 10 players.

In this activity, you will search Learn360 for at least one resource to share with your students. Consider creating a folder or a playlist.

Learn360 offers more than 370,000 videos, interactives, maps, and experiments to enhance your lessons. Teachers working at California agencies can get their own FREE account through OTAN. Learn360 resources can be used in your classroom, and linked, downloaded, or embedded in Google Classroom, Moodle, Canvas, or on your class Website.

 The YouTube video Math Antics - Scientific Notation breaks down into Intro; What is scientific notation? Exponents; Why Scientific Notation? Negative Exponents; Multiplication and division are related; Comparing numbers with scientific notation; Positive exponent; Dividing by a Factor of 10; and Conclusion. It is 14:20 minutes. You can select which of the sections you want to present.   

This activity gives students an introduction and the needed practice to reinforce classroom instruction on Scientific Notation. Students are asked to convert from standard form to scientific notation. Students who answer incorrectly are given an explanation of the correct solution and an opportunity to try again.

The Interactivate site has three different activities using the skill of estimating. This activity allows the user to practice estimating the results of addition, multiplication, and percentage problems. Questions are categorized by a combination of levels (which determines the difficulty) and by types of problems listed. The math involved is addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

This activity allows two users to play a game of order of operations where each player tries to connect four game pieces in a row before his or her opponent does. The players can choose to answer problems that use addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, exponents, and parentheses. They can also choose the difficulty level. This activity would work well in groups of 2 for about 15-20 minutes.

Students can also use the site to learn fractions, do comparisons, create Venn Diagrams and practice other mathematics concepts. Great for the visual learner.

This activity allows students to practice solving algebraic equations using the additive inverse and multiplicative inverse properties. As the user solves the problem, the activity tracks each step, noting the property that was used and the number of steps used to solve the equation. There are three different levels of difficulty.

Use the Socrative website to create formative assessments, which students take on the Socrative Student app, installed on mobile devices. Teachers can create quizzes or pose questions in class and get immediate feedback. The free version allows you to create 5 quizzes per month. The answers students provide to most questions through Socrative are anonymous. The one exception is the quiz. Students are asked to enter their names, which only the instructor can see. The instructor can ask spontaneous questions with the Single Question Activities or can create student self-paced quizzes or teacher-paced quizzes ahead of time. Instructors can cover a certain amount of content in a lecture and then pose a True/False, multiple-choice, or short-answer / open-ended question. The instructor can project the class responses immediately and follow up with a discussion, or go back and repeat or review content that may be revealed as unclear to students.

15. Wayground: Online Gamified Assessment

Activity Description

 

Wayground can be used as a prediction activity to find out what students already know about a topic or it can be used as a review to find out what was learned. You can create and play quizzes live or for homework. They can be accessed by the students using any device with a Web browser including a laptop, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, Chromebook, or desktop computer. An app is NOT necessary to participate in a Wayground activity.

Teachers can sign up for free, but it is a limited version. There is no upgrade for teachers. A school has to buy into it and there needs to be a district quote.  For free, you can have 100 students, 20 games stored and there are only limted question types.
