A Title II grant awarded to Turlock Adult School (TAS) in the 2013-14 school year has them to promote adult education, citizenship and family literacy, and grow to become the largest adult school in Stanislaus County.

As reported in a recent issue of the Modesto Bee External link opens in new window or tab, Turlock Adult has been able to expand the number of classes it offers, and hire more teachers and counselors. This has alowed TAS to open its door to more students, which has seen enrollment rise to about 1,400 students per sememster, according to Principal Isaias Rumayor Jr. It has also allowed many former students to return and finish programs that fell under the budget cutting axe during lean economic times.

With the return of funding opportunities and greater emphasis being placed on adult education, literacy, and career, technical education, adult educators are optimistic that stories such as this one will be repeated throughout the state.
