President Obama Announces Multi-Sector Effort and Call to Action to Give Americans Pathways to Well-Paying Technology Jobs; Makes Available $100 Million in Grants

This week, President Obama announced a new TechHire initiative External link opens in new window or tab to equip workers with the skills necessary to fill 500,000 open positions in the information technology field. The TechHire initiative responds to this workforce need through a new $100 million grant program and a series of commitments from private sector employers and municipalities across the country. 

The Department of Labor will release the grant solicitation in the fall of 2015, and awards will be announced in 2016. The program will support partnerships between employers, workforce boards, training institutions, nonprofit organizations, cities, and states employing a range of strategies, including accelerated training, work-based learning, and registered apprenticeships to serve both front-line workers and the unemployed.
