The California Council for Adult Education (CCAE External link opens in new window or tab) and the California State Consortium for Adult Education (CSCAE External link opens in new window or tab) are teaming up to jointly promote and sponsor Adult Education Week, March 23-27, 2015. Many adult education programs will be hosting events and making available information and press releases about their programs.

The theme is "Literacy: A Family Affair," but programs are free to choose their own theme. To help schools present this event, CSCAE will again provide a free, downloadable booklet External link opens in new window or tab containing generic materials for the promotion of California Adult Education Week activities and events. The booklet includes advice on dealing with the media, suggestions for events and press releases, relevant statistics to include in news articles, and sample public service announcements, press releases, and proclamations, as well as a sample resolution which can be presented to school boards for their approval.

The dates for Adult Education Week were specifically chosen to coincide with CCAE's annual Legislative Day External link opens in new window or tab in Sacramento which will take place on March 24. With funding for California's K-12 adult school system at stake over the next nine months, adult education leadership urges all schools to be especially pro-active during this period. Adult Education Week can be a useful vehicle to build awareness within our various communities, as well as among education decision-makers and the media, of the value of K-12 adult school programs.
