Strategic Plan

The Adult Education Office (AEO) of the California Department of Education (CDE) initiated a strategic planning process this year for the field of adult education in California. The AEO contracted with WestEd to lead the project. The planning process will lead to a report to be published in the fall of 2010. The process is currently in the needs assessment phase.

Cash Shortage Delays $4 Billion School Funding Payment

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell and State Controller John Chiang announced that a $4 billion payment to schools has been delayed for several weeks as a result of the state's ongoing fiscal crisis. Read the full article in OTAN News.

WIA Title II Final Expenditure Report Now Available

The Workforce Investment Act Title II, Sections 225/231 and EL Civics
2008-09 Final Expenditure Report (FER) is now accessible for use and submission.   Agencies funded during 2008-09 must sign in and complete this form by August 15, 2009.

Adult Education Students Succeed

Adult Education Students Succeed

The California Adult Education Students Succeed project identifies learners who have reached their life goals as a result of their participation in the adult education system and are now active in their communities. Their stories and the exemplary programs that assisted them are available at the Adult Education Students Succeed Website. Many of the stories have an accompanying video.

In September, three successful students will be honored at the ACSA Adult Education Conference in San Diego.

Successful student nominations are accepted on a continuing basis.
