Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 5/11

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN’s COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

    • Monday, May 11 from 1:00 to 2:00

    • Wednesday, May 13 from 4:00 to 5:00

    • Friday, May 15 Office Hours are canceled for DLAC presentations (see below)

  • On Monday at 10:00am, Frank Martin will present Reaching Remote Learners (RACHEL). For learners who do not have access to the internet, one solution is RACHEL, a small wireless hotspot device loaded with open educational resources. This webinar with review how the RACHEL device works, what options there are to keep learners engaged and how you can customize devices for different program areas.   • On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Sheets and Forms. Tips and tricks for using Sheets and Forms will be discussed and shown in this hands-on webinar. Although this webinar will not cover basics, some basic functionality of both Sheets and Forms will be shown. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, ProLiteracy will present Preparing Adults for the Workplace. Have you been looking for a collection of learner-centered workplace preparation resources you can use to support students in and out of the classroom? Come check out our free online courses that will help learners to develop the skills they need to get a job and keep the job.   • On Wednesday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs.   • On Wednesday at 1:00pm, Debi Faucette will present GED – Guiding Student Progress from a Distance. The GED Testing Service will discuss options to help keep your students on track. Join as we share best practices and resources that you can use to help your students continue to work toward their learning goals.   • On Thursday at 4:00pm, Barry Bakin will present Using Remind to Safely Communicate with Students. This webinar will introduce Remind as well as show teachers how to safely communicate with students through a 3rd party texting application. Getting started, creating classes, adding students to those classes, and managing communication will be covered. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 10:00am and 1:00pm, OTAN will present DLAC Team Reports: Concept to Implementation, Parts 1 and 2. Learn how the two-year Digital Leadership Academy (DLAC) participants took the journey to create projects aligned with their Technology and Distance Learning Plans and how their training in leadership, communication, team building, and personal strengths helped prepare them for the COVID-19 demands. You will also learn how your agency can apply for DLAC 2020-2022.
